Artist's Comments

... run deep?
OMG a couple pic! My soul is relieved now...

I kinda feel like being in rehab or something at the moment. :XD:
I haven't been able to finish any proper drawing on Photoshop for months and now I'm slowly getting more and more accustomed to it again. Yet it's only the background and not the best though, but I think it's getting better again.

This picture is featuring my character Cherry the Lynx, you got to know a while ago, and a new character: Burn the Lion. Well... at least that's what I call him. I designed this character for my boyfriend and I know he's quite satisfied about his design but he never told me what he thinks about the name... o o ... oh well, if he wants another name, I'll just change it~ xD

As you are probably already able to guess, Cherry and Burn are meant to be together. That's the reason why I designed him.
I've felt a great emptiness inside me for quite a while, because I wanted to express my feelings by drawing so badly, just as I usually do it, but I couldn't. I had no characters to use for it and anime style would just destroy everything, because I'm not good enough at it.
So I decided to give it a try and design a character representing my BF... as I said, he likes it... I'm quite satisfied with it but yet it's a bit boring... to my mind. But it's okay for now.

__About the Picture:__
I started to sketch this picture on Thursday right after I finished the design for Burn. I just thought of one of the wonderful moments we already had together and tried to draw something similar... to express my feelings for him. I never really intended to finish it in any way, because I knew, as with all the other pictures, I wouldn't get it done anyway.

But then yesterday I felt like coloring something with my Copics again and I figured out that I got all the colors for this picture.
So then I decided to ink it in Photoshop, which has three mayor reasons:
1st: I didn't want to kill the sketch
2nd: I'm better at linearting on Photoshop than with freehand lineart on paper
3rd: the sketch wasn't drawn on Copic paper anyway
So I inked it on Photoshop and printed the lineart on Copic paper to color it.

For the coloring itself, I first base colored it, then drew on it with a pencil to mark where the shading had to be and in the end, shaded it.
I only had a few problems with the color of Cherry's muzzle and ear tips, so I had to fix it a little with colored pencils.
In the end I scanned it and fixed the whole picture in Photoshop. I erased parts where I drew over the lines, fixed some clothes (Cherry's hair color was killed by my scanner and her clothes are more of a blueish grey, but I only had regular cool grey Copics).

Then I decided to try adding (yes TRY, as to not having been able to work out anything proper on Photoshop at the moment) a background on Photoshop.
I had some night-time background in my mind and to keep it rather simple and to not overstrain myself right away, I thought of a few trees, clouds and a moon and them sitting on a wall or something, but then I thought of my favourite place at our river nearby and suddenly had the image of them sitting at the water in my mind.
So it ended up like this and as final step I played with some filters, because I wanted the background to fit the copic colored style of the characters.

I simply cannot believe how well you colored this. It's beyond professional, the way you use copics. It surpasses some of your digital artwork, even. I am very impressed. I tip my hat to you.

The process you used to with the digital lineart looks nice.

The water reflections are amazing, the techniques you used must have taken ages! The clouds look wonderful, as does the gradient around the moon. Speaking of the moon, those colors are radiant and appealing to the eye. You, my friend, have created a visual dessert! Bon apetit!

In my opinion, Cherry's clothes look a bit better than Burn's, but nonetheless, they are both excellently achieved. Burn's legs almost look too thin up close, but they look about right from a distance. Nicely done. Burn's jeans also look natural over his shoe, not in some weird shape.

Quite the ... "daredevil" with poses, wouldn't you say? To draw a character sitting down that looks realistic (in any sense of the word, it is a great challenge) is truly an achievement. The pose looks natural in real life as well, like a young couple in love...

I am stunned by the background. If you do more pictures with backgrounds, you will be unstoppable. You've already developed your obvious talent in that area, and if you furthered it, all of us would be impressed.

Do you have all the different colors of copics or something like that? What's your secret?

I hope to see more like this from you in the future. Keep up the good work!
